Ride Review - Latest Revision: Jan 2003 (WARNING! Will Spoil First Time Riders)
The Ghost Train on Brighton Pier is a copy of travveling rides called "Roller Ghoster". Indeed this name is on the back of the ride, though it's official title is Ghost Train.

From the outside, the layout looks much the same as Blackpools, though I suspect it is slightly smaller. Inside, the layout is different, and there are a lot less models and scenes. The ride for the most part (especially when hauling the cars up inclines) is rather slow, and the scenes seem to be timed as opposed to linking with where the car is. This results in the slightly odd situation of scenes lighting up and animating, then turning off before you are even past them.

As you leave the audience, a scream and scene of a woman being hanged. We then start ascending. Very Slowly. The whir of the motor drowns out any other noise, though this does not actually matter - for the rest of the models in the ride, with the exception of the very last, animate with absolutly no sound effects at all.

Others spectacles to be seen on your way is a coffin bouncing around, some heads on sticks rotating around. These guillotined heads are on the incline - but your vehicle is so slow, the light up, animate and turn off again before you are even past them - the same happens other times around the ride. After a trip on outside balconies, the middle drop starts a frantically pased second half with many dips around the ride sending you hurling towards various models including a man getting fried on an electric chair, again in complete silence.

Whilst the topics of the models have appropriate disturbing themes, for some reason they fail to shock even when they jump out. This could be due to the sound, or perhaps the fact that certain models don't look very much like what they are supposed to be. For example, in a row of three heards, two have facial features and the third looks like lump of wax. It doesn’t scare, which is it’s main aim. That said, it is nice to see that for the most part it is well maintained and all the models worked.

£1.50 will get you on the ride, and it isn't a bad one. Add some more sounds and perhaps some more extravagant models such as Blackpool's version and the ride would be a lot better, though it is certainly worth a ride - and the kids may get a couple of spooks.
