Ride Review - Latest Revision: Jan 2006 (WARNING! Will Spoil First Time Riders)
Madamme Tussauds in London has always been known for it's hight quality wax figures and animatronics. So, recently, all of this was put together in a new Dark Ride to show the rich history of the City of London.

The ride system is a people mover much like Disney Haunted Mantion rides, and the old Wicked Witches Haunt at Thorpe Park. However, the black cars are cleverly disgused as London Taxis with taxi signs on the top. As you enter the car, 5 butons flash at you prompting you to press your language. If no button is selected you automatically get a British voiceover.

Ever since, Nelson has kept one eye over Proceedings!

The system takes you upstairs and downstairs, past some very well themed scenes of stuff like World War 2, the Fire of London, and the Black Death. Famous Architechts and roylaty are all featured, and the grand finale is a 60's London, complete with cheap souveniers, fairground rides and quite a spectacular fountain. So much is animated, it can be quite a chore to take it all in - especially since you are really up-close to them, and the detail goes way beyond what's in your eye-line. An excellent example is the WW2 scene, where there is brilliant detail in front you, behind you, above you and below you as you glide past.

The ride is relatively short, and does not go into detail over the various scenes, something of a shame when you consider the very interesting stories around. However, to feature this, the ride would have to be absolutely humoungous, so it is not a criticism as such, just an observation.

The ride has good reliability records, and is one of the best maintained dark rides I know of. You will be hard pushed to find even one lightbulb not working on the ride. My only negative thought is that sometimes, the Narrative is hard to hear over the scenery sounds, but this is not too much to worry about. The narative is well written and will interest all ages.

In my experience, this is the best ride of it's genre that I have ridden. It would be easy to write it off as simply a ride for tourists sake, but it's actually a decent diversion into the bargain - with a lovely atmosphere. Highly Recommended.
